There 3 kinds of books in the library fiction, non-fiction and biology. Ratio of fiction to non-fiction is 3 to 2; ratio of non-fiction to biology is 4 to 3, and the total of the books is more than 1000. Which one of following can be the total of the book?
A. 1001
B. 1009
C. 1008
D. 1007

One more doubt,please help me out.
I was going through the question posted above-
This is how I approached this question -
Fiction:Non Fiction = 3:2 ---(A)
Non Fiction : Biology = 4:3 ---(B)
In order to make the ratios equal, I multiplied equation (A) with 4 and equation(b) with 2. But that's giving me the wrong answer. When I checked the solution, only equation (A) was multiplied by 2 in order to make the ratios equal.
Is it a rule that in order to make the ratios equal, one should multiply by the Lowest number that makes the ratio equal. Please help.

Given: F:N=3:2 and N:B=4:3.
Equate N's by finding the LCM of 2 and 4, so that to be able to write down one ratio for all three kinds of books: F:N=3:2=6:4 and N:B=4:3 --> F:N:B=6:4:3. Now, 6+4+3=13, which means that we have total of 13 parts, thus the total number of books must be divisible by 13, only answer divisible by 13 is 1001.
Answer: A.
As for your question: you can equate N's in any other way (LCM is just easiest one). For example: F:N=3:2=30:20 and N:B=4:3=20:15 --> F:N:B=30:20:15=6:4:3, the same reduced ratio. Or the way you were doing: F:N=3:2=12:8 and N:B=4:3=8:6 --> F:N:B=12:8:6=6:4:3, the same reduced ratio.
