A train running at 25 km/hr takes 18 seconds to pass a platform. Next, it takes 12 seconds to pass a man walking at 5 km/hr in the same direction. Find the length of the train and that of the platform.

a) 200/3m & 175/3m
b) 100m & 50m
c) 50m & 45m
d) 100/3 m & 200/3
e) none of these

Answer is given as 100m & 25 m. I doubt whether that is correct.

T = (25-5) × 12/3600 = 20/300 Km = 1/15 Km = 1000/15 m = 200/3 m
T+P = 25 × 18/3600 = 25/200 km = 125m
or, P = 125 - 200/3 = 175/3 m
So Answer (A)

Hi Math gurus correct me if I am wrong. I wondered i reached the answer mentioned here i.e 100m and 25m

lets solve it
To find out length of train the train, which is must cover the static point of the man as well as the distance covered the man during 12 sec.

The man covered the distance during 12sec is 5*5/18*12=50/3m so the train covered a distance in 12 sec= 25*5/18*12=250/3
so the length of the train(Lt) is 50/3+250/3=100m

Now crossing the platform means length of train+length of platform(Lt+p)= 18*25*5/18=125m Now the length of platform (Lp) is= 125-100=25m

So answer is 100m and 25m Must be "B" even though its mentioned 100m and 50m thinking so typo mistake...........
