The number of female students in college XYZ in the previous year was 500. If in the current year the number of male students in XYZ doubled over that of the previous year but the proportion of male students halved, then the number of female students in XYZ in the current year is,

Answer = E = 2000
Previous Year
---------------------
Lets say male students = x
Female students = 500
Total = x + 500
Current Year
--------------------
Male students = 2x
Female Students = 500 + y (Say y is the no. of additions of female students this year)
Total = 2x + y + 500
By condition given, 1/2 500/(x+500) = 2x/(2x + y + 500)
Solving the equation, we get female students = 2000.
This can also be done by putting values in male students. Kindly provide any other easy method to solve this

Here's how i did it.
Last Year : M/F = X
F = 500 => M = 500X
This year Mnew/Fnew = X/2
Mnew = 2M => 2*500X
Hence Fnew = 2*Mnew/X =2000
Last Year : M/F = X
F = 500 => M = 500X
This year Mnew/Fnew = X/2
Mnew = 2M => 2*500X
Hence Fnew = 2*Mnew/X =2000
