\(\frac{x}{y} = \frac{2}{3}\)

Using componendo / dividendo

\(\frac{x+y}{y} = \frac{2+3}{3} = \frac{5}{3}\) ................. (1)

\(\frac{x-y}{y} = \frac{2-3}{3} =\frac{-1}{3}\) ................... (2)

Divide (1) by (2)

\(\frac{x+y}{x-y} = -5\)

Answer = E

x/y=2/3, so x = (2/3)y
(x+y)/(x-y) = [ (2/3)y +y] / [(2/3)y -y] = [(5/3)y] / [(-1/3)y] = (5/3) * (-3) = -5

If x/y = 2/3, then (x + y)/(x - y) = ?

A. 5
B. 1/5
C. -1/6
D. -1/5
E. -5
Plug in x = 2 & y = 3

\(\frac{(x + y)}{(x - y)} = \frac{(2 + 3)}{( 2 - 3 )}\)

Or , \(\frac{(x + y)}{(x - y)} = \frac{5}{-1} = -5\)

Answer will be (E) \(-5\)
