doesn't he rest 5 times? because 40 to 50th is 10 miles as well - so rest time is 30 minutes and not 24 minutes =>330 and not 324?any suggestions

10th mile
20th mile
30th mile
40th mile
50th mile

Consider at 0 miles...

After every 10 miles he takes rest for 6 minutes...we need to find time taken to cover 50 miles

So he will be resting at a,b,c and d...and after that he covers 50 miles...so whether he takes rest or not is immaterial because we need time to find time to cover 50 miles

Ans is D..

Quote:
A man walks at a rate of 10 mph. After every ten miles, he rests for 6 minutes. How much time does he take to walk 50 miles?

(A) 300
(B) 318
(C) 322
(D) 324
(E) 330

Rate x Time = Distance
10 mph x 1 Hour = 10 miles

So to walk 50 miles he should take 5 Hour , 50/10=5 hour
But after every ten miles he rests for 6 minutes.
The time he reaches the destination he will rest for 4 times ,not 5 times because he already reached his destination.

So 6 mins x 4 = 24 mins

So combined time = 5 hours + 24 mins = 324 minutes.

To cover 50 miles the man needs (time) = (distance)/(rate) = 50/10 = 5 hours = 300 minutes. He will also rest 4 times (after 10, 20, 30 and 40 miles), so total resting time = 4*6 = 24 minutes.

Total time = 300 + 24 = 324 minutes.

Answer: D.

Answer: D.

It's a sub-600 question. The level of a question is shown in the tags above.

Answer = D = 324

Time taken for first 40 miles \(= (60+6)*\frac{40}{10} = 264\)

Time taken for last 10 miles \(= 60*\frac{10}{10} = 60\)

Total time = 264 + 60 = 324
