The question can solved by basic concept of mean and median.
clearly since the numbers are in ascending order "y" is the median. Now Mean is nothing but a number that can represent all the numbers given. If all the numbers were y then mean would y but since two numbers are less than y, mean can never be greater than y. Hence median is greater than mean. B

Ascending set: x, x, y, y, y, y

Median = y+y/2 = 2y/2 = y
Mean = x+x+y+y+y+y/6 = 2x+4y/6 = x+2y/3

Now, we know that x<y

So, x+2y/3 will be less than y+2y/3, which is 3y/3 = y (Replacing x with y).

Hence, median will be greater than mean. Option B.
