Tough and Tricky questions: Word Problems.

X years from now, Jim will be Y years old. How old will Jim be Z years from now?

A. X + Y + Z
B. X – Y + Z
C. X – Y – Z
D. X + Z
E. Y – X + Z

Kudos for a correct solution.

OFFICIAL SOLUTION:

(E) If Jim will be Y years old in X years, then his current age is:
Y – X years.

Therefore, in Z years, his age will be:Y – X + Z years.

The correct answer is choice (E)

Another way to arrive at this same answer is to make up numbers for the variables and plug them.
