560 / 8 = 70 / min

20 * 70 = 1400 / min

1400 * 6 = 8400

I've been big on ratio "esque" solutions lately, and it even applies here.

8 machines = 560 clips = 1 minute

*20 minutes

8 machines = 3360 clips = 20 minutes

Therefore 420 clips per machine.

420 clips * 20 machines = 8,400 clips.

Running at the same rate, 8 identical machines can produce 560 paperclips a minute. At this rate, how many paperclips could 20 machines produce in 6 minutes?

MAGOOSH OFFICIAL SOLUTION:

“Running at the same rate, 8 identical machines can produce 560 paperclips a minute.” That 560 is a combined rate of 8 machines —- 560 = 8*R, so the rate of one machine is R = 560/8 = 70 paperclips per minute.

“At this rate, how many paperclips could 20 machines produce in 6 minutes?” Well, the combined rate of 20 machines would be Rtotal = 20*70 = 1400 pc/min. Now, plug that into the “art” equation: A = RT = (1400)*(6) = 8400 pc.

Answer = C.

Rate of 8 machines=560 per min
rate of 1 machine=(560/8)=70 per min
rate of 20 machines=(20*70)=1400 per min

W=R*T
W=1400*6
W=8400

Answer: C
