A man in a car observes that he can count 41 electric poles in 2 minutes. If each consecutive electric pole is known to be 50 meter apart, what is the speed of the car?
Distance between each pole = 50metres
41 poles are P_P_P....P = 40 intervals
Total distance = 50*40 = 2000metres = 2kms
Time = 2 mins = \(\frac{1}{30}\) hour
Speed = \(\frac{Distance}{Time}\) = \(\frac{2}{(1/30)}\) = 60Kmph
Distance between each pole = 50metres
41 poles are P_P_P....P = 40 intervals
Total distance = 50*40 = 2000metres = 2kms
Time = 2 mins = \(\frac{1}{30}\) hour

Hi All,
This is meant to be an example of a 'fence post' problem, but the prompt is poorly-worded. Although the prompt does not state it, we're meant to assume that the car STARTS at the first pole, then drives forward at a constant speed, passing each of the remaining 40 poles. In that way, it's traveling 40(50) = 2,000 meters in 2 minutes.

1km/1 min =
60km/1 hour
