In a certain business school class, p students are accounting majors, q students are finance majors, r students are marketing majors, and s students are strategy majors. If pqrs = 1,155, and if 1< p < q < r < s, how many students in the class are accounting majors?

A. 3
B. 5
C. 8
D. 11
E. 17

Kudos for correct solution.

We are given that pqrs = 1,155, and if 1< p < q < r < s
Sinc we have to find the value of p, we need to factorize 1155

on factorizing, we get pqrs = 1155 = 3*5*7*11
Since all the numbers are prime, we can easily assign values to each variable.
Therefore p = 3
Option A

Kudos for correct solution.

To solve the problem, we need to find 4 distinct positive integers, each greater than 1, such that their product is 1,155. Therefore, we need to factor 1,155:

1,155 = 11 x 105 = 11 x 3 x 5 x 7

Since the number of students in the accounting class is p and p is the smallest of the 4 integers, p must be 3.

Kudos for correct solution.

Take LCM of 1155 which will come to be as 3,5,7 and 11 and as we know accounting is the least (but has to be greater than 1), the only possible solution is 3 (since 3 is the lowest but greater than 1)

Hence, Option A
