Two cars are driving towards one another. The first car is traveling at a speed of 120 Km/h, which is 28% faster than the second car. If the distance between the cars is 855 Km, how long will it takes the cars to meet (in hours)?

A. 2.5.
B. 3.
C. 3.5.
D. 4.
E. 4.5.

Total distance between cars = 855 Km.

Speed of car 1: 120 kmph
Let speed of 2nd car is v.

1.28v = 120; v = (120/ 1.28)

Time taken to meet = (Distance / relative speed)

Relative speed = 120 + (120/1.28) = 120* (2.28/1.28) = {(15 * 57) / 4} = 855/4

Time taken = 855 / (855/4) = 4 hours

D is the answer.

Speed of the first car = 120 kmph
Speed of second car = \(\frac{120}{1.28}\) = 93.75 kmph

For the case in which 2 cars are moving towards each other, we add the respective speeds according to rules of relative motion
Distance = 855 km
Relative speed = 120 + 93.75 = 213.75

Time required for cars to meet = \(\frac{855}{213.75}\) = 4 hrs

Correct Answer - D

Time= Distance /Relative speed

855/ (120+ 120*100/128)= 855*128/(120*128+120*100)

855* 128/ 120*228= 4

D is the answer

Relative speed of two bodies moving together at each other is= S1 + S2
S1 given, find S2 from the relation.

Time= 855/(S1+S2) = (855*128)/(120*228) = 4 Hours.

A = 120
B = 120-28%=86,4
A+B=120+86,4=206,4
855/206,4= 4

The problem is actually pretty simple, but everyone is giving answers as if the math is obvious. Under time pressure, though, it would take me a few minutes to solve it. Are there any ways to make it simpler?
