Given

    • Train X is traveling at a constant speed of 30 miles per hour.
    • Train Y is traveling at a constant speed of 40 miles per hour.
    • Two trains are traveling in the same direction along the same route.
    • Train X is 25 miles ahead of Train Y.

To Find

    • The time taken until Train Y is 10 miles ahead of Train X.

Approach and Working Out

    • Relative velocity = 40 – 30 = 10 mph.

    • Relative distance covered = 25 + 10 miles = 35 mph.

    • Time taken = 35/10
      o 3.5 hours

Correct Answer: Option E

Given:Train X is travelling at a constant speed of 30 miles per hour and Train Y is travelling at a constant speed of 40 miles per hour.

Asked:If the two trains are travelling in the same direction along the same route but Train X is 25 miles ahead of Train Y, how many hours will it be until Train Y is 10 miles ahead of Train X?

Gap to cover = 25+10= 35 miles
Relative speed = 40-30=10 mph
Time taken = 35/10=3.5 hours

IMO E
