To distribute equally, the number of oranges should be multiple of 6 and 8. Since the question asks us to find greatest number of oranges there can many numbers which can be divided by 6 as well as 8. e.g 48, 96 etc..

basically the question is asking to find greatest common multiple (opposing case of least common multiple) which can be any multiple of the LCM of 6 and 8 which is 24.
So the multiple can be 24,48,72,96,120 etc
so no definite answer can be found.
