Over the first x games of his basketball season, Martin averaged 32 points per game. In his last game, he scored 14 points and his average dropped to 30 points per game for the
x+1 game season. How many games were played that season?

A. 8
B. 9
C. 10
D. 11
E. 12

We are given that over the first x games of his basketball season, Martin averaged 32 points per game; thus, he scored a total of 32x points.

We are also given that he scored 14 points in his last game, dropping his average to 30 points per game for the x + 1 games.

Recall that average = sum/quantity; thus, we can create the following equation to solve for x:

30 = (32x + 14)/(x + 1)

30(x + 1) = 32x + 14

30x + 30 = 32x + 14

16 = 2x

x = 8

Since Martin played x + 1 games in the season, he played a total of 8 + 1 = 9 games.

Answer: B

The best way to answer such question is to deal in total numbers that is total number of points earned in X games and in X + 1 games.

Total number of points in X games = 32X
Total number of points in Last game = 14
Total number of points in X+1 games = 30(X+1)

Therefore,
32X + 14 = 30(X+1)

By solving this we get
X = 8,
This is where the track lies we are asked total number of games and not the value of X so the answer will be X + 1 that is 9.

Using allegations,

x/1 = (30-14)/(32-30)

x=8, therefore, total games =x+1 = 9 games.
