If 65% of the players traveled  more than  200 miles, then 35% of the players traveled  less than  200 miles

What is the  difference  between the number of participants who  traveled more than 200 miles  and the number of participants who  traveled 200 miles or less?   
Difference =  (0.65)(720)  -  (0.35)(720) 
= (0.3)(720)
= 216

This question is essentially just about multiplication and finding the difference between two numbers - and you can do the math in a couple of different ways. Since the answer choices are sufficiently 'spread out', you can actually simplify the math a bit, use the answer choices to your advantage and still get the correct answer.

Based on the information in the prompt, we know that there are two groups:
1) 65% of players traveled MORE than 200 miles for a tournament.
2) 35% of players traveled 200 miles or LESS for a tournament.

That means for every 100 players in the tournament, 65 are in the first group and 35 are in the second group. The DIFFERENCE in those numbers is 65 - 35 = 30. The prompt tells us that there are 720 total players, so the answer to the question is a little more than 7 times 30.... There's only one answer that makes sense.

This is a good example of two tricks:
1. Estimation! The answer choices are quite far apart, so you can almost certainly estimate. 
2. Don't do any math until you have the whole thing written out - you might find opportunities to avoid doing calculations.

.65(720) traveled more than 200 miles, and the remaining (1-.65)(720) traveled 200 miles or less. You want the difference between those values:

.65(720) - (1-.65)(720)
.65(720) - .35(720)
.3(720)
3(72)

3 times 70 is 210, so 3 times 72 will be a bit bigger than 210. The answer is (B).
