Last year, Larry changed all of the curtains in the house in 6 hours. Ken could do the same task in half the time. How long would it take them if they were to cooperate to complete the task?

A. 1.5 hours
B. 2 hours
C. 3 hours
D. 4.5 hours
E. 9 hours

Let the total work be 6 units...

Efficiency of Larry is 1 unit/hr
Efficiency of Ken is 2 unit/hr

Combined efficiency is 3 units/hr

Thus, time taken to complete the total task is 2 hours, answer must be (B) 2 hours...

Ken could do the same task in half the time. Then ken could do the task in 3 hours

1/6 + 1/3 = 3/6.
Flip over the fraction 6/3 = 2
Answer is B

A. 1.5 hours
B. 2 hours
C. 3 hours
D. 4.5 hours
E. 9 hours

Solution:

Since their combined rate is 1/6 + 1/3 = 1/6 + 2/6 = 3/6 = 1/2, it will take them 1 / (1/2) = 2 hours to complete the task when working together.
