Joe can program 100 lines of code in 40 minutes, which is twice the speed at which Tom can program the same lines. How many lines of code could they program together if they worked continuously, each at their own constant rate, for 12 minutes?

Let, rate of Tom be T.
then rate of Joe will be 2T.
From the given information, rate of Joe = 100/40 = 5/2 lines of code per minute.
or, we can say 2T = 5/2
T = 5/4
So rate of Tom is 5/4 lines of code per minute.
Combined rate of both Tom & Joe = 5/2 + 5/4 = 15/4 lines of code per minute.
Or we can say in 1 min both program 15/4 lines of code.
So in 12 min they will code (15/4 x 12) = 45 lines of code.
Answer should be (D).

Combined the two work at a rate of 300/80 per Minute. 300/80 x 12/1 = 3600/80 = 45
