Since letters represent consecutive integers. So, the difference between the integers is 1.
Hence w- u = 2

Method 1 - assign values.
Let u = 2, v = 3, and w = 4.
4 - 2 = 2.
Method 2 - Intervals
Consecutive integers are an arithmetic series with a common difference of 1: x-1, x, x + 1 . . .
There are two intervals between w and u. Each interval has distance 1. (2 * 1) = 2.
