Rearranging the terms gives us f(n) = 2 * [f(n + 1) - n]

When n = 4, f(4) = 2 * [f(5) - 4] = 2 * (12 - 4) = 2 * 8 = 16

When n = 3, f(3) = 2 * [f(4) - 3] = 2 * (16 - 3) = 2 * 13 = 26

When n = 2, f(2) = 2 * [f(3) - 2] = 2 * (26 - 2) = 2 * 24 = 48

When n = 1, f(1) = 2 * [f(2) - 1] = 2 * (48 - 1) = 2 * 47 = 94

Given: f(n+1) = n + \(\frac{f(n)}{2}\)

Asked: If f(5) = 12, what is the value of f(1)?

f(5) = 4 + f(4)/2 = 12
f(4) = 16 = 3 + f(3)/2
f(3) = 26 = 2 + f(2)/2
f(2) = 48 = 1+ f(1)/2
f(1) = 94
