A and C ruled out because they are way higher than 1/2
B 12*5= 60 so it is more than 0.5 clearly bigger than option D
6/17 vs 1/2
Cross multiply
6*2 < 17*1
So 6/17 is the final answer.

We can solve this question without direct comparison, by estimating.
This is an Alternative approach.
A is about 1
B is about 1/2
C is about 1
D is exactly 1/2
E is about 1/3.
Then (E) is our answer.
Even had we not had one distinctive answer, then estimation would have helped narrow down our options.
