Charlene spent 2/5 of her income for January for rent, and 3/4 of the remainder on other expenses. If she put the remaining $180 in her savings account, how much was her income in January?

(A) $1,000

(B) $1,200

(C) $1,400

(D) $1,600

(E) $1,800

180 $ = 1/4 of saving

saving = 720 $ which is 3/5 of the income

so total = 720 x 5/3 = 1200

(b) imo

(E) $1,800

We can let n = the total income and create the following equation:

(2/5)n + (3/4)(3/5)n + 180 = n

(2/5)n + (9/20)n + 180 = n

Multiplying by 20 we have:

8n + 9n + 3,600 = 20n

3600 = 3n

1200 = n

Answer: B

let total salary be x
rent= 2x/5
left 3x/5 * 3/4 ; expenses =
2x/5+ 9x/20 + 180 = x

solve for x = 1200 IMO B
