we know a+b = 19
and ab=88

there aren't many numbers that can add to 19

so if we start from 10 and 9
10*9=190
11* 8 = 88 ( satisfies ab=88)
so 11-8 = 3

If the sum of two numbers is 19 and their product is 88, what is the difference between the numbers?

A. 2
B. 3
C. 4
D. 5
E. 6

a+b=19
ab=88
so
a=88b
solve
we get a=11,b=8
difference = 3
IMO B
