Max x = 8
Max y = 11
So max value will be 88

lowest value x = 3
lowest value y = 5
lowest value will be 15


Option C reflects that <15xy<88. Thus Option C is the best answer.

Solution



Given:
    • 3 < x < 8
    • 5 < y < 11

To find:
    • Out of the given options, which one represents all the possible values of xy

Approach and Working:
In this case, the possible values that define xy can be identified by the extreme possible values of x and y

To find the minimum value:
    • As x > 3, we can assume the value of x is very close to 3, or almost equal to 3
    • Similarly, as y > 5, we can assume the value of y is very close to 5, or almost equal to 5
    • Therefore, the value of xy should be greater than 3 *5
      o Or, xy > 15

To find the maximum value:
    • As x < 8, we can assume the value of x is very close to 8, or almost equal to 8
    • Similarly, as y < 11, we can assume the value of y is very close to 11, or almost equal to 11
    • Therefore, the value of xy should be less than 8 * 11
      Or, xy < 88

Hence, the correct answer is option C.
