To rely only on odd/even nature you maybe fall into a trap as answer 'C' also will give as an odd result

If 3x + 1 represents an odd integer, which of the following represents the next larger odd integer?

(A) 3(x + 1)

(B) 3(x + 2)

(C) 3(x + 3)

(D) 3x + 2

(E) 3(x + 2) + 1

The next larger odd integer is 2 more than (3x + 1); thus, it is 3x + 1 + 2 = 3x + 3 = 3(x + 1).
