The “aspect ratio” of a computer monitor is the ratio of the monitor’s width to its height. If a particular monitor has an aspect ratio of 16 : 9, and a perimeter of 100 inches, how many inches wide is the monitor?

Since the perimeter of the screen is 100 inches, it's width and height together is 50 inches (think about a rectangle, and as such one long side and one short side together is half the total perimeter). The aspect ratio can be thought of in another way. The width:height ratio of 16:9 is also the same as the width being 16/25 the width and height added together.
So, we just take 50*16/25 = 32 inches as the width of the monitor.
The height is 18 inches by the way (50*9/25).
Answer is C.

Given:
- • Aspect ratio is the ratio of a monitor’s width to its height
• A particular monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:9
• The perimeter of the monitor is 100 inches
To find:
- • How many inches the monitor is wide
Approach and Working:
As the ratio of width and height is 16:9, we can assume
- • Width = 16x
• Height = 9x
• Therefore, perimeter = 2 * (16x + 9x) = 2 * 25x = 50x
It is given that,
- • 50x = 100
Or, x = 2
Therefore, the monitor is wide by 16 * 2 = 32 inches
Hence, the correct answer is option C.
