In 1982, if the 1.8 billion dollars collected as child support payments was only 10 percent of the total court-ordered payments due, approximately how many billion dollars of court-ordered payments for child support were not collected?

Let,
X = Amount not collected
10/100 of X = 1.8
0.1 * X = 1.8
X = 1.8 / 0.1
X = 18

Hence, E.

Hey bro, I think 1.8 bl is collected and is 10% of the total court order payments. So, 90% is still due. Kindly check and make me clear. thanks.

Solution

Given:
    • In 1982, 1.8 billion dollars collected as child support payments was only 10 percent of the total court-ordered payments dues.

To find:
    • How many billion dollars of court-ordered payments for child support were not collected.

Approach and Working:

    • 10% of the due amount= 1.8 billion dollars
      o Hence, 100% court-ordered payments for child support= $18 billion
      o Hence, the amount that were not collected= 18-1.8= $16.2 billion

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

Answer: C

(A) 1.6
(B) 14.4
(C) 16.2
(D) 17.2
(E) 18.0

10% represents 1.80 billion dollars

So, 100% represents 18.0 billion dollars, Answer must be (E)
