Waiter A's compensation for any week is $500 plus 15 percent of the portion of A's total receipts above $600 for that week. Waiter B's compensation for any week is 25 percent of B's total receipts for that week. For what amount of total weekly receipts would both waiters earn the same compensation?

A. $12,200

B. $10,600

C. $8,900

D. $6,300

E. $4,100

Let the total weekly receipts be T.
So, Waiter A's compensation = 500 + 15% of (T-600) = 500+.15T-90 = 410-.15T
Waiter B's compensation = .25T

if Both waiters earn same compensation for a week, 410-.15T = .25T
.10T = 410
T = $4100

Answer A

E. $4,100
500 + 15% ( x - 600 ) = 25% of x

Or, 500 + 0.15x - 90 = 0.25x

Or, 0.10x = 410

So, x = 4100, Answer must be (E) 4100

Can somebody please help me out with this question?

How is everyone taking the Weekly revenues of both A&B to be the same when the question is talking about the scenario where their compensations are to be equal, which would only be a portion of the revenues that they both bring in?

Is the phrasing of the question confusing or am I missing something here?

D. $6,300

E. $4,100

Let x = the amount of the weekly receipts. We can create the equation:

Waiter A’s compensation = Waiter B’s compensation

500 + 0.15(x - 600) = 0.25x

500 + 0.15x - 90 = 0.25x

410 = 0.1x

4,100 = x

Answer: E

Waiter B's compensation for any week is 25 percent of B's total receipts for that week. For what amount of total weekly receipts would both waiters earn the same compensation?

Given, Compensation of A = A = 500+15%*(P-600) where P = total receipts for that week
Compensation of B = B = 25%*(P) where P = total receipts for that week

For both waiters earn the same compensation,
=> A=B
=> 500+15%*(P-600)= 25%*(P)
=> 500-90=10%*P
=> 410=10%*P
=> P=4100

Hence E
