In a company, 60 percent of the male employees and 70 percent of the female employees eat only veg food. If 66 percent of all the employees eat only veg food, what is the ratio of females employees to male employees?

(A) 3/10

(B) 2/3

(C) 3/4

(D) 5/6

(E) 6/7

Dear Moderator,
There seems to be a small typo here.
Kindly check the OA for this one too, ratio of F:M= 3:2 not given in the OA
Ratio of M:F= 2:3.
We are asked F:M and NOT M:F

Hope you will look into this, Thank you.

(A) 3/10

(B) 2/3

(C) 3/4

(D) 5/6

(E) 6/7

Allegation Method :

66 - 60 = 6

70 - 66 = 4

Ratio = 4 : 6 = 2 : 3

The best answer is B.

Bunuel stne can you explain how this was derived? I did not understand how the rule of allegation is applied here.

Hi Preethi88,
Let there me M males and F females. So total employees M+F.

Now lets form an equation of those employees who eat veg food only.

Then we have the following equation
\(\frac{60}{100}M +\frac{70}{100}F = \frac{66}{100}(M + F)\)

On solving we get
.40 F =.60 M
4F=6M
\(\frac{F}{M}=\frac{3}{2}\)

Hope its clear now , please feel free to ask if anything is still unclear.

let the number of boys be x and girls be y. So 70x/100+60y/100= 66x +66y/100
60x+70y=66x+66y
-66y+70y=66x-60x
4y=6x
the ratio is 3 is to 2

Given
    • 60 percent of the male employees eat only veg food.
    • 70 percent of the female employees eat only veg food

To find

    • Ratio of female employees to male employees in the company if 66 percent of all the employees eat only veg food.

Approach

Let the number of male employees be x and the number of female employees be y.
    • Therefore, 0.6 × Total male employees + 0.7 × Total Female employees = 0.66 × Total employees in the company.
      • 0.6 × x + 0.7 × y = 0.66 × (x + y)
      • 0.04y = 0.06x
      • 4y = 6x
      • y : x = 3:2

Hence, the correct answer is option B.
