In a community, 60% of people own car and 40% OF Car owners live in a villa. If 80% of people who live in villa own car too, then what % of people of community

1--Live in villa
2-- own car but do not live in villa

Let total be 100.
1) 60% own car, so 60 own car., So C=60
Both car and villa =B=40% of 60=24
2) also 80% of staying in villa have car =B= 80%of V=24...
V=24*100/80=30

Let's work on the questions asked..

1--Live in villa
30 out of 100 = 30%

2-- own car but do not live in villa
C-B=60-24=36 of 100 or 36%

3--live in villa but do not own car
C-B=30-24=6, so 6%

4 neither live in villa nor own car
100-(C+V-B)=100-( 60+30-24)=100-66=34

Draw a Venn diagram . It will be even more easy..

80% of people who live in villa own car too
I think "too" is incorrect .
Because it means addition.
Like now total people who have Both car and villa will become = 24+0.8V..
Please clarify. Thanks

Hi guptakashish02

Your confusion is understandable.

IMO, what the statement would translate to is that 80% of the people who live in a villa
would also have a car - so it essentially means that 80% of those who live in a villa have
both a car and a villa. So the equation is \(0.8V = 24\) -> \(V = \frac{240}{8} = 30\)(who own villas)

I have seen the movie Bourne Identity. I have read the book too.
So it adds up that movie + book

let the total number of people =100;
60 % own a car=60; without car=40;
40% of car owners live in villa=40% of 60=24---> which is the same as 80 % of people living in a villa with a car.
so, no. of people living in the villa would be=30; without villa=70;
People in villa without car=6;
people own a car without villa=60-24=36;
neither=People without a car - people in a villa without a car=34;
