Solution

Given:
    • 20% of 3k = 6

To find:
    • The value of 40% of k

Approach and Working:
    • 20% of 3k = \((\frac{20}{100}) * 3k = \frac{3k}{5} = 6\)
      o Thus, \(k = 5 * \frac{6}{3} = 10\)
    • 40% of k = \((\frac{40}{100}) * k = (\frac{2}{5}) * 10 = 4\)

Hence the correct answer is Option A.

If 20 percent of 3k is 6, what is 40 percent of k?

A. 4
B. 12
C. 24
D. 36
E. 72

0.2 x 3k = 6

3k = 6/0.2

3k = 30

k = 10

So 40 percent of 10 is 0.4 x 10 = 4.

Alternate Solution:

If 20 percent of 3k is 6, then 20 percent of k is 6/3 = 2. Since 40 percent of k is twice 20 percent of k, 40 percent of k is 2 x 2 = 4.
