Given XZ = 68

Also, XY + YZ = 68 ----- (I)

XY = XZ/2

Therefore, XY = 68/2 = 34 -------(II)

YZ = 4a + 6 ------(III)

From (I) and (II),

YZ = 68 - 34 = 34

Put YZ = 34 in (III)

34 = 4a + 6

a = 28/4

a = 7 (E)
