GMATH practice exercise (Quant Class 13)

The figure above shows the representations of the graphs of the functions f and g, where f(x) = 2^(-0.5x) and g(x) = ax^2+b (a and b constants). What is the value of g(f(0)) ?

(A) 3
(B) 3.25
(C) 3.5
(D) 3.75
(E) 4

Given: The figure above shows the representations of the graphs of the functions f and g, where f(x) = 2^(-0.5x) and g(x) = ax^2+b (a and b constants). What is the value of g(f(0)) ?

g(-4) = 0 = 16a + b = 0
b = - 16a
g(0) = -16a = f(-4) = 2^2 = 4
a = -1/4 = - .25

\(g(x) = -.25(x^2 - 16) = 4 - .25x^2\)
\(f(x) = 2^{-.5x}\)

\(f(0) = 2^0 = 1\)
g(1) = 4 - .25 = 3.75
