Compute the sum of all the roots of (2x + 3)(x - 4) + (2x + 3)(x - 6) = 0

(A) 7/2
(B) 4
(C) 5
(D) 7
(E) 13

2x+3 ( x-4+x-6)=0
2x+3(2x-10)=0
so 2x-10=0, x=5
and 2x+3=0 x= - 3/2
5-3/2= 7/2 Ans

Why can't I do this:

(2x + 3)(x - 4) + (2x + 3)(x - 6)

x = -3/2, 4, -3/2, 6

Sum of -3/2 + -3/2 + 6 + 4 = 7

2x+3 * ( x-4+x-6)=0
2x+3 * (2x-10)=0
so
x=-3/2 and 5
so sum
-3/2+5 ; 7/2
