A closed rectangular tank contains a certain amount of water. When the tank is placed on its 3 ft by 4 ft side, the height of the water in the tank is 5 ft. When the tank is placed on another side of dimensions 4 ft by 5 ft, what is the height, in feet, of the surface of the water above the ground?

(A) 2

(B) 3

(C) 4

(D) 5

(E) 6

(3 x 4 x 5)/(4 x 5) = 3

Answer: B

For visual learners, you can also approach this without any math.

In red is position 1, in blue is position 2

total vol; 2*(lb+bh+lh) ; 2*(12+15+20) ; 94
so now l=5 and = 4
solve we get h= 3
IMO B

Isnt that formula for Surface Area and not Volume????

That's the formula for the surface area of a cuboid and not its volume.
