So if all the students in School take atlaest one subject then total number of students are 23
Of which 20 take Math and 10 take History and 7 take both math and history .
Total who take math only are 13 or history only are 3 and total who take both are 7
We are asked to find students who take math or History
Since every student has selected at least one subject we have number of students who have selected either math or History is 23

You can use set theory formula :
n(A n B) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A u B)
n(H) = No of students studying History
n(M) = No of students studying Maths
n(H u M) = No of students studying History and Maths
n(H n M) = No of students studying either History and Maths
Substituting values
n(H n M) = n(H) + n(B) - n(H u M)
n(H n M) = 10 + 20 - 7
n(H n M) = 23
n(A n B) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A u B)
