A. x/(60y)
B. xy/60
C. 60x/y
D. 60/xy
E. 60xy

In y minutes, the machine can produce:

x * y/60 = xy/60

Alternate Solution:

We can set up the proportion, “x tires per 60 minutes equals t tires per y minutes:”

x/60 = t/y

Now we solve for t:

xy = 60t

xy/60 = t
