In a race, at least 3 and at most 5 runners will vie for gold, silver, and bronze medals. Which of the following could represent the total number of unique ways to distribute the three medals among the participants?

I. 6
II. 24
III. 60

A. I only
B. II only
C. III only
D. I and II only
E. I, II and III

3P3 = 3 x 2 x 1 = 6

4P3 = 4 x 3 x 2 = 24

5P3 = 5 x 4 x 3 = 60

Answer: E

Permutation question because the order of the medals matters. Three slots available, so the entire factorial won't be needed, just last 3 numbers.

3 runners: \(3*2*1=6\)
4 runners: \(4*3*2=24\)
5 runners: \(5 *4*3=60\)

Therefore answer is E.
