plug the value of x into 2

z = 2( z - 50 ) + 10

z = 2z - 100 + 10

We can create the equations:

x + y = y + z - 50

x = z - 50

and

z = 2x + 10

Substituting the second equation into the first (simplified) one, we have:

x = 2x + 10 - 50

-x = -40

how do you define z is equal to twice x plus 10 , as z = 2x + 10 and NOT z = 2 ( x+10 ) ? because it says twice x plus 10. Is it normal math as we take the multiple sign first?

By default, we don’t insert parentheses  unless the wording explicitly calls for them.

For example, if the statement were:
 
“twice the quantity of x plus 10”

Then we’d write 2(x + 10)

But as written — “twice x plus 10” — it translates to 2x + 10
