This is a question on bridging two ratios and solving for a value based on the bridged ratio and so it’s actually not all that difficult a question.

Let the number of sophomores, juniors and seniors be X, Y and Z respectively.

The ratio of sophomores to juniors is 2:3. This means X:Y = 2:3.

The ratio of juniors to seniors is 5:6. This means Y:Z = 5:6.

When these two ratios are bridged, we get X:Y:Z = 10:15:18.

So, number of sophomores = X = 10k; number of juniors = Y = 15k and number of seniors = Z = 18k.
The whole team = 10k + 15k + 18k = 43k.

So, sophomores as a fraction of the whole team = 10k / 43k = 10/43.

The correct answer option is A.

Multiple (1) by 5 and (2) by 3

sophomores : Juniors : Seniors = 10:15:18
Sophomores = 10/43

A is the answer.

Could you tell me what is that i am doing wrong if i am multiplying the 2 ratios to find sophomores:seniors = 5:9
[(Sophomores/Juniors)* (Juniors/Seniors)]
Then, using proportions, sophomores:whole is 2:18, ie, 1:9
