It sounds like you might be assuming that the area of a parallelogram is just the product of two sides. That's true for a rectangle, but not for all parallelograms.

Try drawing the figure, and see if that helps you see what's going on? Hint: think about the height of the figure, or break it into a rectangle and a couple of triangles.

I hope that helps a bit!

Asked: What is the area of a parallelogram with the coordinates: (5,7), (12,7), (2,3), (9,3)?

Length of the parallelogram = 12-5 = 9-2 = 7
Height of the parallelogram = 7-3 = 4
Area of the parallelogram = 7*4 = 28
