A farmer wanted to plant 5180 seeds in the form of a square shape inside a farm. However, the farmer found that there were four fewer seeds than were needed. If the farmer could obtain four additional seeds, then how many seeds could be planted in the front row?

(A) 68

(B) 72

(C) 78

(D) 82

(E) 84
\(\sqrt{5180+4}=72\), Answer will be (B) 72

Is there a technique for finding the root quickly? Other than trial-and-error or test the answer-choices?

Go for units digit rule and square of no's ending in 5...

Units digit rule -

Units digit 1 square will have units digit as 1
Units digit 2 square will have units digit as 4
Units digit 3 square will have units digit as 9
Units digit 4 square will have units digit as 6
Units digit 5 square will have units digit as 5
Units digit 6 square will have units digit as 6
Units digit 7 square will have units digit as 9
Units digit 8 square will have units digit as 4
Units digit 9 square will have units digit as 1
Units digit 0 square will have units digit as 0

Using saure of no's having units digit as 5 -

Hope this helps !!!
