John is three times as old as Sam. If John will be twice as old as Sam in six years, how old was Sam two years ago?

A. 2
B. 4
C. 6
D. 8
E. 16

J = 3S ------------------------>(I)
J + 6 = 2 (S + 6)------------>(II)

Susbtitute J= 3S in (II)-

3S + 6 = 2S + 12

Or, \(S = 6\)

Hence, Sam's age 2 years ago was 4 , Answer must be (B)

Given: John is three times as old as Sam.

Asked; If John will be twice as old as Sam in six years, how old was Sam two years ago?

Let John be j years old and Sam be s years old
j = 3s
j+6 = 2(s+6) = 2s + 12
J = 2s +6 = 3s
s = 6
j = 18

s-2 =4

IMO B
