Deconstructing the Question

Let \(S\) be the number of employees who took at least 2 sick days.
We are told 10% of all employees did this.

Of those \(S\), \(1/3\) have been with the company at least 4 years, so \(2/3\) have been there fewer than 4 years.
We are told that this \(2/3\) group equals 40.

Step-by-step

\(\frac{2}{3}S = 40\)
\(S = 40 \cdot \frac{3}{2} = 60\)

Now \(S\) is 10% of total employees \(T\):

\(0.10T = 60\)

\(T = 60/0.10 = 600\)

Answer: D (600)
