Company X sells a selection of products at various price points. Listed below are unit sales made for one particular day. How many unit sales on that day were greater than the mean sale price but less than the median sale price?

$50, $50, $97, $97, $97, $120, $155, $155, $155, $199, $199

(A) 0
(B) 1
(C) 2
(D) 3
(E) 4

Mean \(= \frac{2*50 + 97*3 + 120 + 155*3 + 199*2}{11}\)

Mean \(= \frac{100 + 291 + 120 + 465 + 398}{11}\)

Mean \(= 124.91\)

Median of 11 Numbers is 6th Number = 120

Quote:
How many unit sales on that day were greater than the mean sale price but less than the median sale price?

120 > Range > 124.91

Now, check $50, $50, $97, $97, $97, $120, $155, $155, $155, $199, $199

Red Highlighted part = Sales > Mean

Blue Highlighted part = Sales < Median

Hence, non of teh value falls within the given range, Answer must be (A)

$50, $50, $97, $97, $97, $120, $155, $155, $155, $199, $199

(A) 0
(B) 1
(C) 2
(D) 3
(E) 4

We see that the median is the 6th value, or 120.

The average is:

(50 x 2 + 97 x 3 + 120 + 155 x 3 + 199 x 2) = (100 + 291 + 120 + 465 + 398)/11 = 1374/11 = 124.91

Thus, the number of prices that are greater than 124.91 but less than 120 is 0.

Answer: A
