Let maximum marks be x
Lily got 0.5x (50% of max marks)
Given: she failed by 12 marks and had she got 10% more than what she got, she wouldve passed.
Equation:
0.5x*0.1 = 12
0.5x = 12/0.1
x = 120/0.5
x= 240
Hence maximum marks = 240
Answer : E
