Let the total volume of 5 cup of mixture = 3*3 = 9 units

2/3 * 9 = 6 units salt

5 cup = 9 units
6 cup = 9*6/5 = 54/5 units

6 units of salt is what % of 54/5 units of mixture = 6*5*100/54 = 55.56% (D)

Adding a small amount of water to a larger amount of liquid that is 2/3 salt and 1/3 water will result in a solution that is a bit less than 2/3 salt.

No way does this small addition of water result in flipping the fractions to 1/3 salt and 2/3 water, so eliminate A, B, and C.

Since E keeps the salt at 2/3, only D fits.

I might not be so great at math (kidding - I am) but I’m smart.

Make small chart (15 to 20 seconds)
S: 10/3 (5x2/3)
W: 1 2/3 (5x1/3)
T: 5

Add 1 cup to 1 2/3. Total mixture is 6. But salt quantity does not change.
So salt/total that is given 6.
10/3 x 1/6 = 10/18, OR 5/9. (Note: memorize 1/9 in decimal form, and multiply each number correspondingly. For example .11111 x 5)
