As the ratio is 7:2 we have a total of 9 parts, so to get 1 part we can divide 720 / 9 to get the number for 1 part, which is 80.
Since the new ratio must contain 1 more part of water, we simply add 80.
Because we made the numerator a little smaller at the beginning, the answer must be a little more than 80, so the correct answer is E 81.

A mixture, 729 ml in volume, contains milk and water in the ratio 7:2. How much more water is to be added to get a new mixture containing milk and water in the ratio 7:3?

A. 60 ml
B. 71 ml
C. 75 ml
D. 80 ml
E. 81 ml

From 7:2 (total 9) to 7:3 (total 10), water added was 1 part out of initial 9 parts
Note: since water is added, milk should remain unchanged, which is 7 in both cases and hence consistent

Thus, for 9 parts of initial vol, you added 1 part water
Hence, for 729 parts of initial, water added = 729/9 = 81

Answer E
