Explanation:

6 minutes = 360 seconds
4 seconds = 10 copies
360 seconds = 360/4 x 10 = 90x10 = 900

A certain photocopying machine can make 10 copies every 4 seconds. At this rate, how many copies can the machine make in 6 minutes?

(A) 900
(B) 600
(C) 360
(D) 240
(E) 15O

Solution

    • We know that \(60\) seconds \(= 1\) minute
    • Now, in 4 seconds the photocopying machine is making 10 copies.
\(⟹\) In (\(4*15 = 60\) seconds or 1 minute) the photocopying machine will make \(10*15\) copies.
\(⟹\) In 6 minutes the photocopying machine will make \(10*15*6 = 900\) copies.
Thus, the correct answer is Option A.

Alternately,

    \(60\) seconds \(= 1\) minute
      \(⟹\) \(1\) second \(= \frac{1}{60}\) minute
      \(⟹\) \(4\) seconds \(=\frac{1}{60}*4 = \frac{1}{15}\) minutes.
    • Now, In \(\frac{1}{15}\) minutes the photocopying machine can make 10 copies.
\(⟹\) So, in \(1\) minute the photocopying machine will make \(10*15\) copies.
\(⟹\) And in \(6\) minutes the photocopying machine will make \(10*15*6 = 900\) copies.
Thus, the correct answer is Option A.
