(6*650)^2 + x^2 = 4000^2
=> x^2 = 4000^2 - 3900^2
=> x^2 = 79*100*100
=> x ~ 900
Closest possible answer is 889. 850^2 will be far less than 790000.

The AA plane has traveled 6 hours (from 8am to 2pm). Distance = Speed * Time = 650 * 6 = 3900 miles
Let the Distance traveled in 1 hour (from 1 pm to 2 pm) by the Delta Airlines = x miles
At 2 pm the distance between them = 4000 miles
Referring to the diagram below, by Pythagoras theorem
\(4000^2\) = \(3900^2\) + \(x^2\)
\(x^2\) = \(4000^2\) - \(3900^2\)
x = 888.82 \(\approx {889}\)
Therefore Speed = \(\frac{Distance }{ Time} \)= \(\frac{889 }{ 1}\) = 889 mph
