I believe the answer is D.

The daily rate of use is 1/65, because it's used completely in 65 days.

If you increase the usage by 60%, 16/10 * 1/65 = 16/650.

x * (16/650) = 1

x = 650/16 = 40.625

A hotel depletes its supply of laundry detergent every 65 days. If its use increases by 60%, how many days would the same amount of laundry detergent last?

A. 35.0
B. 36.0
C. 39.0
D. 40.6
E. 45.6

Solution:
Suppose, the hotel depletes 5 units per day.
Total depletion in every 65 days = 5*65 = 325 units.
Due to use increase by 60%, the hotel depletes 5*1.6 units = 8.0 units per day
In the changing situation, the same amount of laundry detergent lasts = 325/8 = 40.63 days

Answer: 40.60 days

The normal rate is 1/65, now this this increased by 60%-- then the rate become 1.6*1/65, so we know that r*t =w,
1.6/65*t=1 ( work), t= 1.6/65= 160/65-- is 40.6
